A colourful patchwork of beautiful landscapes, the Franciacorta region is a variegated, charming and sparkling land.  It is the ideal destination for anyone in search of sceneries of rare beauty  and for  cycling and horse riding  lovers.

Discover the area

The Franciacorta region, which is situated just a few kilometres to the west of  the historic town of Brescia, is well-renowned for its sparkling wines known as “Bollicine Franciacorta” and its picturesque Lake Iseo. Deeply immersed in  the lush and green vineyards you’ll find charming castles, wonderful abbeys and fascinating old farmhouses. Driving along the many wine routes the area offers you’ll come across aristocratic families’ ancient dwellings, where many wineries have their seats.

Don’t miss out the famous  Franciacorta Festival held in September: on that  occasion all the wineries are open to the public  for a guided tour in the cellars and for wine tasting.

While planning your trip to Franciacorta we recommend that you include a visit to the old Dominican complex of the Santissima in Gussago, the Cluniac Monastery of  San Pietro in Lamosa in Provaglio d’Iseo, the medieval castle of Passirano, the Abbey in Rodengo Saiano and Monte Isola, the largest inhabited lake island in Europe listed among the “Borghi più belli d’Italia” (Italy’s most beautiful hamlets), which is also famous for its small fishing villages, for the production of fishing nets, as well as for its so called “Naecc”, typical wooden boats which are still used nowadays.

To taste

Don’t forget to try the tasty sardines of Lake Iseo, the local oil, the smoked salami of Monte Isola, the famous “Manzo all’olio” of Rovato (beef stewed in oil) and the typical “spiedo” of Gussago (spit roast, the typical Brescian dish).
