Friuli Venezia Giulia
a region influenced by central european traditions
Friuli Venezia Giulia has always been a meeting point for different populations and a region characterized since ancient times by a mix of cultures and culinary traditions coming mainly from Central European countries rather than from other regions in Italy.
This land still thoroughly preserves the signs of its past times, which, however, remain hidden to those who only visit it superficially without really exploring and deeply experiencing all its traditions.
The region is so particularly interesting and full of history that words cannot completely express its charm. To really live and enjoy this extraordinarily cozy land to the full we suggest you visit the many wineries of the vast and flat area of the registered name Friuli-Grave, the graceful hills of Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio with its orderly and harmonious grapevine lines.

Friuli Venezia Giulia: The territory
The white wines of the region are renowned internationally as full-bodied wines with a particular mineral flavour and great maturity.
The local vine varieties feel the influence of the climate of the nearby countries: Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. The main white varieties are friulano, verduzzo, ribolla gialla and picolit, whereas the main red varieties are refosco dal peduncolo rosso and tazzelenghe. A must-try are for sure the withered wines Ramandolo (produced from verduzzo friulano) and Picolit, but don’t miss tasting the local grappa (grapes spirit), the famous prosciutto San Daniele and the local cake Gubana di Gorizia.
Important and worth a visit from a cultural point of view is the archaeological site Aquileia, the castle of Muggia and Colle di San Giusto in Trieste. You’ll be highly satisfied!
